Hello and 'Thank you' for your interest in my blog.
My Name is Kellie Robbins and i'm the MD of Robbins Construction Ltd, I have started this blog as a way of documenting things such as my journey as a female director in the construction industry, on trend construction tips, general building advice and whatever may pop in to my mind. I will be keeping them short and sweet for the most part but i may feel the need to rant once in a while so please bear with me!!!
Growing up I always had a paint brush in one hand or some kind of construction toy in the other and I was always remember helping my dad around the house whenever he had a project on the go.
My father started his own construction business in 1975 the year of my birth and fated or not it seemed only natural that I would join him in some form or another in my adult years. Fast forward to 1991, I found taking calls about general building in my dads office in Edmonton north London. As the years rolled on it soon became apparent I had a natural skill in the construction industry and although it was mainly male dominated I never felt out of place or intimidated, in-fact I welcomed the challenge of being a female in a predominantly man’s world.
As my father grew older and only turning 70 last year it was only natural that one day he would be passing the baton to me. So here we are fast forward to 2020, A female boss of my own company trying to make my own name with Robbins Construction. With over 30 years in the business and an abundance of knowledge under my hat I’m ready to rock ‘n’ roll!
If you want to know more about my journey please do check back in on my blog and if you would like to be kept up to date with what we are doing, follow us on our social media platforms.

New enquiry regarding client looking for an experienced builder to fit a loft conversion with a reading corner. Customer had almost zero experience of building regulations and ideas re possible solutions. Our service was to break down actual requirements from the customer as to not just what was needed but also why. Essentially an extra bedroom with en-suite creating an almost separate living accommodation for when her grandson visited with his partner. Numerous design ideas were discussed and drawn out with the client taking her time to run through the possible solutions with her grandson. As with most clients the budget was vastly important not to be overstretched but the input from her grandson was clearly just as important. Meetings were held…
A recent enquiry from an existing client with whom we helped create a modern open plan kitchen/dining area doubling the size of the ground floor of her previous home, who then decided to sell and with the profit to upscale to a much larger house in the Loughton area giving her far greater scope and potential to create a large family home in requirement of major property renovation. With this is mind, as with any of our clients we started the new project from basics with the following areas all discussed with our client. How Much Will Building an Extension Cost? The client knew from the previous project we should be allowing a budget in or around £1,000–£2,000/m2. With…
